They Love Him

We went back to Discovery Kingdom today and had more luck with the butterflies. Luke really and truly has a gift with these little creatures. When you walk through the door they tell you not to touch any of the butterflies, but they seem to like landing on him. He even rescued one that was on the ground, and was the same color as the ground, by gently putting it onto a flower. At the same time the rescue was happening, Lance got busted for picking flowers. Poor guy, he's not so good at the "gentle" thing yet.

Discoveries

We went to Discovery Kingdom on Saturday. It was a great day with perfect weather and happy kids. Lance just couldn't believe his luck that he got to ride Thomas the Train and Harold the Helicopter over and over again. This morning he bawled when he asked if he could see Thomas again and we said, "not today." I have a feeling he's going to ask to go see Thomas every morning for awhile. Luke rode lots of different rides, but not really for the thrill. He was much more interested in how they worked. As we were spinning at top speed on the teacups, he was explaining to me..."you see those screws? Well, they are attached to this pole and then..." One thing he really loved was the butterfly exhibit. He was so determined to hold a butterfly. He held his little hand out the whole time, waiting and hoping that one would land on him. I was so happy when we found one that was down low. He was able to get it to crawl onto his hand, and I think it was one of his happiest moments ever. He held it for quite awhile, just quietly looking at it. Later we went to feed the birds, and he really liked that too. On the way home I asked him if he wanted to be a butterfly keeper when he grows up. He said, "No, an electrician." Such a fun Saturday with new experiences and memories!

Pre-K

I asked Luke what he learned at preschool today. This is what he said:

"I asked Miss Elaine if she has a chandelier in her house and she said 'no' . I guess her house is not that fancy."

Doin' OK

Whenever I see my boys together like this, I think I'm doing okay. Yesterday Luke taught Lance everything he knows about bugs, including how to re-tect (protect) them and make a suitable habitat for them. Then Lance went on his way and Luke spent the remainder of the afternoon checking his bugs to make sure they were doing okay. At one point his little roley-poley (spelling?) was curled up in a ball. I said, "maybe it's cold. I don't know, that's just my hypothesis." Then Luke said, "Hypothesis: An idea you can test!" Man, all that Dinosaur Train is really paying off! Anyway, I'm glad I have a bug re-tecting kind of boy instead of a bug squisher... although the jury is still out on Lance on that issue.

Luke guarding the bug against Lance on wheels. He pedals now. Fast. Watch out.

Fun Times

This is how we've been filling our winter days: Tinker Toy trains (below) and HVAC systems (left).

...and, the occasional trip to the playground.
